Electron correlations due to pair spin–orbit interaction in 2D electron systems

نویسندگان

چکیده

We show that the pair spin–orbit interaction (PSOI) created by Coulomb fields of interacting electrons leads to appearance an unconventional correlated electronic state in two-dimensional materials with large Rashba effect. The effect manifests itself at sufficiently strong PSOI as a sharp peak structure factor, indicating tendency form striped spatial scale determined competition between repulsion and PSOI-induced attraction electrons. Above critical value PSOI, system becomes unstable respect charge density fluctuations on this scale.

Tuning Correlations in a 2D Electron Liquid

Undoped strontium titanate, SrTiO3 (STO), is a widely studied ceramic material with a huge dielectric constant ε, ranging from 300 at room temperature up to 5000 at T = 80 K[1]. The large values of ε are a macroscopic signature that the internal charges are easily displaced by an external electric field, while the material remains an excellent insulator. These properties have made STO an intere...

Electron-phonon interaction and antiferromagnetic correlations.

We study effects of the Coulomb repulsion on the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in the Holstein-Hubbard model, using the antiferromagnetic (AF) dynamical mean-field approximation. AF correlations strongly enhance EPI effects on the electron Green's function with respect to the paramagnetic correlated system, but the net effect of the Coulomb interaction is a moderate suppression of the EPI. ...

Wigner crystallization in mesoscopic 2d electron systems.

Wigner crystallization of electrons in 2D quantum dots is reported. It proceeds in two stages: (i) via radial ordering of electrons on shells and (ii) freezing of the intershell rotation. The phase boundary of the crystal is computed in the whole temperature-density plane, and the influences of quantum effects and the particle number are analyzed.

Contact phenomena in 2D electron systems

A promising wity ro investipa~c ZD contact phenomena is proposed. This nlcthod is based on the idea of dcpositing surface sta.te electrons (SSE) on a thin layer or liquid helium covering the surface or a solid sample cntitaining ;I 1U-charge carrier sysiem. Thc density of SSE adjusts to screen contact-induced perturbations or the elcctrosratic potential across the silmple. As a result, the heli...

Magnetoconductance Oscillations in Metallic Rings & Decoherence Due to Electron-electron Interaction

We study weak localization in chains of metallic rings. We show than nonlocality of quantum transport can drastically affect the behaviour of the harmonics of magnetoconductance oscillations. Two different geometries are considered : the case of rings separated by long wires compared to the phase coherence length and the case of contacted rings. In a second part we discuss the role of decoheren...
